Thus concludes the pilot season of Who Will Survive? It has all come down to this…We have three finalists. The results of Part 1 and Part 2 of the Grand Finale are in. Below is the breakdown of each the popular and judges vote. Lastly, we incorporated the total judges vote and popular vote from the rest of the season into our consideration. Again, to clarify: Part 1, Part 2, and the total score each will make up 1/3 of your final score.
Grand Finale Part 1
Alex B Judges 3.5 Popular 3.6
You did not get the judges choice vote, but you held down the popular vote to keep the lead in this regard. You were direct with your approach to being warm and dry. Our favorite aspect of your presentation was your systematic removing, replacing, and drying of layers.
Michael R Judges: 4.0 Popular: 2.9
We were impressed by your description of the situation and the reasoning behind your actions. This is the reason that you edged out Alex B in the judges vote. However, it looks like the popular vote hurt you this time.
Ben R Judges: 3.0 Popular 3.0
We particularity liked your tip on the gloves to socks, and your intent to take the hike. However, Hypothermia will most likely set in about a half hour. We would have liked to see you focus more on the fire and how to get warm.
Grand Finale Part 2
Michael R Judges:4.5 Popular: 3.0
Michael R, you had a strong finish to this race in the eyes of the judges! You lists were specific to the nature of the exercise, made sense, and were laced in detail. You did not win the popular vote, but you saved your best for last.
Ben R Judges: 4.0 Popular:3.0
There is a two way tie for second overall in Part 2. Ben R, you edged out Alex in the judges vote due to your complete list and your very straightforward list. In fact, your list is the type that people would be willing to read since there is no associated paragraph to clutter it. The simplicity of your list, coupled with good content, gave you our second place vote.
Alex B Judges:3.5 Popular:3.5
Alex B, you had the highest popular vote again, well done. The reasons as to why you were not ranked as high in the judges eyes were small things. You did not write out your second list clearly, even with the repetition it would have been a good idea (like Ben R did on many items). However, there would be less repetition overall on lists if you focused your lists on the scenario specifics at hand (like Michael R did). It seemed more like one long winter survival list verses a customized list for practical winter car survival and winter hiking/camping survival. We digress, you still scored well.
Regular Season Results
(looking back through the regular season, you three held the top three positions the majority of the time. Here are your total rounds 1-7 results)
Michael R Judges Total: 32.0 Popular Total: 27.2
Ben R Judges Total: 29.5 Popular Total: 29.3
Alex B Judges Total: 29.0 Popular Total: 27.8
Now, for the moment you have all been waiting for…
The overall score generally set precedent for the final score. The Grand Finale (Parts 1&2) were both weighed more heavily, thus edging Alex B over Ben R. However, the upset was not enough to displace Michael R from the top spot.
