If there is a society ending event, for example an EMP wipes out the United States, a nuclear war takes place, or the government collapses, what is your survival probability? Generally speaking, the least amount of hazards in your area, the higher chance of survival. The success of your survival is based on many things, namely luck. You might have the most plans, the best safe house, the most food storage, and the best emergency kit- but it could all be for naught. What if you were on vacation, or on a business trip? As you see, timing is everything. Though there are many things and many resources to help you increase your chances of survival, bad timing can greatly diminish everything. That is one of the points that I wanted to impress: do not think that simply having enough supplies will guarantee survival.
You must always be aware of what is going on, always be survival minded, and be ready to use critical thinking to escape any situation unscathed. However, there is one good rule of thumb that can be used to generally assess your current survival probability, and quickly assess the survival probability of any location. Simply speaking: the greater the population density, the worse your chances are to survive. This should be obvious, but it should be said anyways. Here are a few helpful maps and other supporting information that should help assess your location.
