A lot of people know being a prepper is both a job and a hobby. It should be something that should be done to keep you alive and prepared for any situation, but it should also be enjoyable. If you anything like me, then you enjoy watching TV shows and movies that are generally related to the survival field. These shows are not perfectly accurate on what would actually happen during each specific emergency event, but some can give a little insight and teach some lessons on what could actually occur. Below are a list of several shows to watch for fun, but that also have lessons that can be learned for preppers:
- Containment- Containment is a new TV show on the CW, and only has 2 episodes to date. It is about a deadly disease/virus that hits a major US city and begins to spread rapidly. Although it is a made up TV show, it shows how fast a pandemic can begin and spread from person to person very quickly. It also shows that one of the main things on peoples minds are food, especially when quarantined to one area. Without food, you can’t stay in one area for long.
- The Walking Dead/Fear the Walking Dead- These 2 shows are very popular and a good watch for anyone, not just preppers. These shows depict a world taken over by zombies, and even though its not possible, it has 2 very important lessons. The first lesson is that people will do crazy and violent things when put in extreme situation. As seen in WW2 (and many other wars), people are capable of horrific things when pushed in extreme situations. The second is that food is an essential item that everyone needs and that goes into high demand in an emergency. A large portion of the show has to do with finding food and not starving to death.
- Revolution- This is a show in which all electronic devices are disabled and life is put back into the 1800s. The one important lesson to learn here is that without light, cars, and airplanes, things quickly become chaotic. An EMP could do just that, making fire a main source of light.
- The Last Ship- This is another series that has to do with a pandemic killing 90 percent of the world population. A naval ship is left untouched while in the antartica and has to come back to deal with the crisis after months of radio silence. This is important to show how realistic this can be and that a deadly virus really could take out 50 percent of the population or more.
Although these are just shows, they are fun to watch and do offer so insight about what would happen if these extreme situations occurred. Please click the links below to be taken to each shows main page!
