Gear Review: What is the best tape for survival? Is it Duct Tape?- that holds the world together. Oh wait- it’s Gorilla tape, right? Perhaps you have heard of Tenacious Tape, by Gear Aid. Oh wait, Gorilla now has clear repair tape! What is the best? To help, we have put together this video. It compares eight different types of tape: Scotch Tape, Electric Tape, General Purpose Tape, Packing Tape, Duct Tape, Gorilla Tape, Gorilla Clear Repair Tape, and Tenacious Clear Repair Tape (by Gear Aid). We analyze the price, the strength, the elasticity, the tackiness- we even soak the tape in water and light it on fire! Of course, the final test has to be how well it repairs the broken tarp at the end. Check out the video now!
Ok, so perhaps you don’t want to watch the video and you want to cheat- that’s ok. All of these tape types have a different purpose and all of them can be helpful in a survival situation, in an emergency kit, while you are camping, or for when SHTF. However, the best tape for gear review is Tenacious Tape. The best tape for all purposes is clearly Gorilla Tape. Duct tape works just fine (and it is cheaper per foot), but Gorilla beats it- especially in the flame resistance category! I digress. If you want to toss some cheap tape into your pack just to get by, a few rolls of electric tape are fine (2 rolls for $1.00!). The most disappointing tape was the Gorilla Clear Repair Tape, though it was fine. If you are concerned for the price, it definitely beats the Tenacious Tape, which costs nearly five dollars and you don’t even get two feet!
