A new antibiotic resistant bacteria was found that has infected a woman in the United States recently. This new bacteria was resistant to the antibiotic colistin, which is an anitboitic that is only used as a last means of defense against bacteria. This has caused conecern, maily being because a drug resistance superbug could infect millions and potentiall kil over half of the people it infects. This is rumored to be caused by overuse of antibiotics, with more bacteria adapting rapidly to all kinds of antibiotics. This is a problem, because bacteria can spread very rapidly, especially in todays interconnected world. There is nothing really to do now but to follow news articles and practice good hygiene, a copule of tips are:
- Wash your hands a lot- Wash your hands when touching handles, people, food, or anything that could transmit bacteria.
- Don’t over use hand sanitizer- Don’t use hand sanitizer a lot, the more you use it, the faster bacteria could become resistant to it. This just means don’t use it 5-10 times a day everyday, once a day would be fine.
- Don’t touch bathroom handles with your hand- Many people don’t wash their hands in the bathroom, so touching the door with your elbow to push it open or with your shirt is good for preventing the bacteria from getting right on your hand.
- Pandemic Kit- Ready your pandemic kit so that your ready if a virus or super bug gets out of control.
